On May 22, 2025, International Biodiversity Day, the PowerLines4Birds project joined AdEPorto - Agência de Energia do Porto, “À Velocidade do Sol" 2025 initiative.
The main aim of the project is to reduce the impact of power lines on various species of birds that are vulnerable to this threat or in danger of extinction in Portugal and Spain, an impact that is not always widely known.
Through environmental education, this initiative made it possible to raise young people's awareness of the different technologies used in the conversion of renewable energy sources. It also made it possible to show this more urban community all the work developed and implemented by E-REDES and its partners (LPN, SPEA and Quercus) in the project, with the aim of reducing the impact of power lines by electrocution and collision for 7 priority bird species in the European Union that are highly vulnerable to this threat, through the bird protection devices installed on the network.
The event was attended by several schools, teachers and students from the 2nd and 3rd cycles of basic education, secondary education and vocational education.
The direct contact with the communities reinforces our conviction that the energy transition must go hand in hand with nature conservation!
