On May 21, as part of the Powerlines4Birds project, partner organization Quercus marked Natura 2000 European Day with an Open Day at the Tejo Internacional Natural Park. It was an opportunity to publicize the LIFE PowerLines4Birds project and the conservation actions being implemented nationwide, particularly in Castelo Branco, to make power lines safe for birds!

In the morning, Nature Watchers (ICNF) and GNR-SEPNA agents were shown the new module of the E-REDES application, which allows them to record incidents involving birds on power lines. This is a citizen science tool, designed to be used by anyone and which will make it easier to report and signal lines that are dangerous to birdlife.

During the afternoon it was possible to visit some of the lines that had been worked on in the region and there was also time for a birdwatching tour of the Monte Barata ecological reserve. At the end we were treated to a sighting of the emblematic black stork, which, despite not being one of the project's target species, is always a noteworthy sighting.

Thanks to Quinta do Chinco for providing the space and to E-REDES for their support during the event.
